The birth of modern auctioneering came with the rise of the Roman Empire where the practice and trade of selling at auction first became regulated. Most people do not realize that there is a body of auction laws and traditions going back over 2,000 years to the Roman Empire.

The word auction is derived from the Latin words Acto for increase and Auctonarium; which for Romans was the place that auctions may be conducted by an accredited certified or licensed auctioneer called The Magister Auctionarium.

True auctions are where assets of all types are offered for sale to the public and the price is determined through open and competitive 'Acto' bidding. The price increases until there are no more bids or increases. The assets are all sold as-is where-is with all faults and no warrantee other than clear title upon cash payment in full.

The Auctionarium is California’s only full service Roman rules auction company that is dedicated to take the pain out of selling real estate and personal property such as art, furniture, collectibles, sculpture, coins and jewelry using the auction method to determine the "present cash market value" that the market of bidders are willing to pay.

Story of an April eviction auction in Long Beach was a win / win / win for everyone involved. 

This is an auction I did not want to do. Family with 2 elementary school aged children were evicted after losing their home to foreclosure. 

They took nothing when the Sheriff escorted them out and have not been back since January... I tried to get them to come and get their stuff and they had no money, no resources, no place to store the stuff etc. 

I asked the bank if they would pay to move it and they agreed to pay $2,000 on a cash for keys deal. The former owners would not sign the cash for keys because of a (real or perceived) lawsuit...

Stories of robo signing, foreclosure rescue scams, everything I have seen & heard about came from them... This is an auction I did not want to do but when the deadline passed Friday for removal with us supervising, it was inevitable.

We arrived at 8:43 AM to find the front door open with most of the good stuff pictured in the inventory gone... Good for them the little guy gets his stuff over the weekend...

Several people arrived to bid on the "remainders" and we sold 2 houses filled with stuff for $1 each since there was only on person bidding... 

The bank wins by getting the house back to put on the market in a realistic $600 to $700k price range.

The family wins a small victory getting everything they wanted out of the home they lost. If the loan or foreclosure was illegal they still have the right to sue the big bank.

The family who "won" the remainders for $2 scored 4 working bicycles, a lot of nice dishes & serving stuff, Chachkas, art, 2 BBQ's a working gads lawn mower, childs bed and a working washer & dryer...

The Auctionarium won because we charge a flat rate with a minimum commission for eviction auctions.

The neighborhood won because now the house can be prepared for sale to a new family that can afford the loan.

Another example of a small business fixing the broken economy one house and one family at a time.
